Reading Instruction at Educational Resources Begins with Assessing your Child’s Needs
Before we can design a tutoring program for your child, we need to know where he or she stands academically. We use nationally normed assessment instruments to pre- and post-test to evaluate the student’s initial knowledge and to measure reading improvement.
Based on assessment results, a customized instructional plan is written. Then a tutor is selected based on the student’s educational needs, personality, interests, and age. When the student is nearing the end of the reading program, he is post-tested to verify the increased percentage of improvement in targeted areas.
Our assessment factors may include the following:
- Phonological awareness
- Phonics
- Phonological processing speed
- Word identification
- Word attack skills
- Spelling
- Reading accuracy, rate, and fluency
- Reading comprehension
- Expressive and/or receptive vocabulary
- Listening comprehension
- Short–term memory
